Use WebRTC when a person is publishing from a browser and may need to hear the room back. Use WHIP when the encoder already speaks it and you want that contribution on the same server. Opus, AV1, and H.264 are the codecs for this path. Glass-to-glass latency stays under half a second on a healthy network. Encoder settings and the network path still move that number. See FAQ.

Where it goes next

Play the same stream over WHEP for anyone who needs to answer. Use HLS for a watch-only audience. Transcode when the next protocol cannot take the codec you published. Issue a short-lived JWT for the publish. When the appointment ends, the key ends with it. See Security.
