# SRT

> Contribute across a long or lossy link.

Use SRT when the contribution crosses a long haul or a link that drops packets. The protocol is built for that path. You send the stream you have, and Vasl receives it on the same install as every other ingest.

Pair SRT with a local playback protocol once the stream is inside. [WebRTC](/play/webrtc) for people who answer. [HLS](/play/hls) for a large watch-only audience. [RTSP](/play/rtsp) for a recorder on the local network.
