# FAQ

> Latency, protocols, hosting, and licensing.

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="What latency can we expect?">
    Less than half a second glass-to-glass over WebRTC on healthy networks, and 6–20 seconds on standard HLS. Encoder settings, the network path, and the player buffer all move the result. Start with [Play](/play).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can we self-host?">
    Yes. Vasl runs on your bare metal, in your VPC, or on any cloud VM. Size the instance for your concurrency. See [Install](/install).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Which protocols are supported?">
    Ingest: WebRTC / WHIP, SIP audio and video, RTMP, RTSP, SRT, VOD, a URL, and NDI. Egress: WebRTC / WHEP, HLS, and RTSP. Restream: RTMP and SRT. Codecs are transcoded when one side cannot accept the other. ABR, SVC, and simulcast are planned for a later release. See [How Vasl works](/how-it-works).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="How does licensing work?">
    Pick a term on [pricing](https://vasl.sh/#pricing), then complete payment. A license key is issued and emailed with portal access. Manage renewals and keys from [Account](https://vasl.sh/account/). Details are on [License](/license).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="How is billing handled?">
    Prices are shown on Vasl. Payment is processed by the checkout provider. Card details never touch Vasl servers. After purchase, sign in at the customer portal to manage activations, billing, and keys.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can we cancel, and do you refund?">
    Subscriptions can be cancelled from the customer portal and stay active until the end of the paid period. Annual licenses are refundable within 14 days if you have not deployed to production.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Do you ship a cluster?">
    You put your own load balancer in front and keep a warm standby when you need one. See [Install](/install) and [Operations](/operations).
  </Accordion>
